From the - The Trades of Talavera - Historical Needlepoint Collection - El Pregonero ( The Proclaimer ) is interpreted into needlepoint from tile paintings that are now practically extinct - due to Spain*s recent *modernization*. We name this painting The Reveler.

Up until 45 years ago - the reproduction was faithful to the original 17th Century School of Talavera - the period when Talavera de la Reina - Spain - reach the height of development to excel and earn worldwide recognition.

Due to the shortage of silver - Talavera ware was regarded as entirely acceptable for the tables of nobleman. Poets of the century referred to the Talavera colors and designs - by comparing its beauty to that of their sweethearts. Spanish nobles collected Talavera ceramics finding it attractive for the beauty of its painted decorations - the wide variety of designs and the clear - bright - luminous colors.

Needlepoint Kits and Needlepoint Canvases

We meticulously dyed the fibers to exactly match the Talavera paint colors and include the necessary amounts of wool in the Needlepoint Kits. The slightly peach white is true to the tin-glazed terra-cotta base - as are all the other eighteen colors in this painting.

These Spanish themes later spread throughout Europe to the very similar Quimper French Faience - Majolica and Delft tiles - each country adapting and evolving the designs to their regions and colors.

The canvases ( not kitted ) - are found by selecting this link - RUSTIC NEEDLEPOINT CANVASES.
